Juventus are assessing three emerging defenders for a midseason boost. Monaco’s Christian Mawissa leads the shortlist, impressing after his 2024 move and likened to Lilian Thuram. Lecce’s Tiago Gabriel has stood out in Serie A, while former Juventus talent Tarik Muharemovic is excelling at Sassuolo after helping them return to the top division.
When the January window approaches, Juventus appear ready to reinforce their defence following a difficult run of injuries and inconsistent performances. With Gleison Bremer sidelined again after suffering a meniscus injury soon after returning from an ACL tear, the club has identified the need for a new centre back and compiled a shortlist of young options who have impressed this season.
One of the primary names is Christian Mawissa of Monaco. The twenty year old former Toulouse talent has earned the trust of Juventus CEO Damien Comolli, who oversaw his early development in France. Mawissa has steadily grown into a reliable presence in Ligue 1 since joining Monaco in 2024 and is already a French U21 international. His versatility and style have drawn comparisons to former Juventus great Lilian Thuram. Juventus are also monitoring two emerging Serie A defenders.
Lecce’s Tiago Gabriel has been a standout performer and one of the league’s surprises, attracting interest from both Juventus and Inter. Meanwhile, Tarik Muharemovic, formerly of Juventus’ youth system, has impressed at Sassuolo after helping them return to the top flight. The twenty two year old Bosnian is now proving he can compete against major sides, raising the possibility of a future move back to Turin.
