See the Complete List of Mumbai Indians Retentions and Releases

Mumbai Indians have started their campaign to win the sixth IPL title. It has been five seasons for the team to go from five trophies to six in the IPL. With the next season approaching, the team has also announced its retention and release list.

Mumbai Indians were looking like a strong contender in the last IPL season. Still, the team fell short to even reach the finals, as they lost against Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 2. Their squad was strong, but the team management knew they required some changes if they are eager to win the next season.
The team has retained a good number of players, which means that fans won't be seeing much changes in the next season. But Mumbai Indians was able to shock all the teams with its moves in the IPL Trade Window. Still, the team has ended up with some releases, which could even make the fans question them.
Retained Players
Mumbai Indians have not disappointed the fans when it comes to the IPL retentions. They were able to bring up most of the retentions, due to which the team has ended up with the highest retentions for the next edition. There were rumours of Mumbai releasing some key players, but the team has thwarted all of them.
Starting with their batting line-up, Mumbai Indians have Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma. The Hitman returns once again, being more fit than ever before, for the next season. Along with that, the team will be having India's best top-order batsmen, Suryakumar and Tilak Varma, who could help them to score well.

Moving to the wicket-keepers, Mumbai Indians have retained both Robin Minz and Ryan Rickelton. Minz played just two games for the team in the last season, but Mumbai has backed him this time with the hopes of a good performance. Rickelton has also not been released, which now fixes the opening slot for the team.
And it is the all-rounder side, where Mumbai Indians look the strongest. Hardik Pandya will remain the skipper of the team even for the next season, as he made some great contributions with his captaincy. Along with him, the team also has Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Will Jacks, Corbin Bosch, and Raj Bawa.
Mumbai Indians has also maintained the dominant bowling line-up of the last season. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah will be the key bowlers for the team, followed by Deepak Chahar and the youngster Ashwani Kumar. Ashwani was able to impress the management with his performances in the last season, creating an impact for MI.
The team has also retained two spinners, which includes Raghu Sharma and Allah Ghazanfar. Raghu Sharma didn't get a chance to play for the team in the last season, as Allah Ghazanfar has been a promising young talent for Mumbai Indians.
Traded Players
Mumbai Indians played a big game in the IPL Trade Window. Before the retention, they were able to get three players to the team. This includes Sherfane Rutherford, Shardul Thakur, and Mayank Markande, which further strengthens their line-up ahead of the next season.
It all started when the rumours of the trade window were viral all over the internet. And confirming them, Mumbai Indians said that they have officially traded Shardul Thakur for a total of 2 crore rupees from Lucknow Super Giants. Along with that, the team also got Sherfane Rutherford from Gujarat Titans for 2.6 crore rupees before the retention.
But this is not where it all ended for Mumbai Indians. Just hours before the auction, the team was also able to get Mayank Markande to their line-up, which provides more depth to the spin department. Now, it seems that Mumbai Indians will be entering the auction with less stress, as they have already built a strong line-up.
Released Players
When it comes to the releases, Mumbai Indians decided to release their least used players. And these are also the players which helped Mumbai Indians to fund their deals by getting released. The team has made a good expenditure in the trade window, for which they had to pay a heavy price with the releases.
Among all, the notable releases made by the team starts with Reece Topley. He has been a prominent fast paced bowler for the team but has seen less success in the IPL. Last time, he was released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and now he has been released by Mumbai Indians. Also Mumbai Indians has released Arjun Tendulkar, who got traded to Lucknow Super Giants.
MI Released Players List:
- Satyanarayana Raju - 30 Lakh
- Reece Topley - 75 Lakh (Foreign)
- KL Shrijith - 30 Lakh
- Karn Sharma - 50 Lakh
- Arjun Tendulkar - 30 Lakh (Traded to Lucknow Super Giants)
- Bevon Jacobs - 30 Lakh
- Mujeeb ur Rahman - 2 Crore
- Lizaad Williams - 75 Lakh
- Vignesh Puthur - 30 Lakh
Along with that, Mujeeb ur Rahman has been another notable exclusion from the team ahead of the next season. He was one of the primary spinners for the team, but now will be entering the IPL auctions, eager to get a good price. Taking a look at his last four IPL seasons, Rahman has played just 9 matches.
Mumbai Indians has also released Lizaad Williams, putting them with fewer options when it comes to the backup pace bowlers. Vignesh Puthur was also a great spin bowler for the team, taking 6 wickets in 5 matches at an average of 18.16, but he now finds himself in the list of released players.
Purse Remaining
Taking a look at Mumbai Indians’ purse, it may not be good for the fans to know that the team has the least funds for the auction. With the majority of their players being retained and funds being used for trade deals, Mumbai Indians are now left with just 2.75 crore rupees. This may not be enough for Mumbai Indians to target any player in the auction.
