Read the Updated List of Sunrisers Hyderabad Retentions and Releases

Sunrisers Hyderabad have also made some tough decisions in the IPL retentions. The team has retained some of their star performers even after a bad season. But for others, it was the end of the road, as SRH came up with some shocking releases too.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, the one-time IPL champions, are now eager to make it two. They have reached close to winning the title in IPL 2024, but failed to do it, losing to Kolkata Knight Riders. Following this, fans had high expectations from the team in IPL 2025 but they were not even able to reach the playoffs of the tournament.
After a bad season, Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to make some strategic moves ahead of the auction. The team is surely continuing with some of their key players for the next season, but there are also some tough good byes which they said to the players. In short it is clear that SRH is eager to win the IPL 2026, just like they did a decade ago in IPL 2016.
Retained Players
While retaining the players, Sunrisers Hyderabad knew that their team was strong. From the batting line-up to bowling, they have players who are enough to dominate any team in the tournament. But in the IPL 2025, the team had a bad season, and it seems that they are now ready to recover from that in IPL 2026.
Starting with the batsmen, the team has retained Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. Both of the aggressive openers will now be available once again, for the fans to watch the ball go sailing over the boundary lines. Aniket Verma also played a crucial role for the team across all the games, and the young talent has ended up being retained by the team.

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, there were talks about who could be released by the team in the wicket-keeper group. And they decided to go against all the odds and rumours, retaining both of their wicket-keepers for the next season. Ishan Kishan will be playing for the team in yet another season, allowing them to get the best of their top three batsmen.
And for the middle order, the team also has Heinrich Klaasen for the next edition. There were a number of rumours that Klaasen might end up being released by the team, following his international retirement this year. But the Proteas batsman will be available for the team in the upcoming season, eager to dominate all the bowlers with his batting skills.
The most players retained by the team were from the all-rounders section. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has been making waves in the Indian team, has also been retained by the Sunrisers. Reddy has also improved his bowling skills, which will play a vital role for him to get a permanent spot in the playing XI.
They have also retained other all-rounders such as Harsh Dubey, Kamindu Mendis, Harshal Patel, and Brydon Carse. The Sri Lankan batsman, Kamindu Mendis, will help the team with some more depth in the middle order. Along with that, Harshal Patel and Brydon Carse will be adding more depth to the team. Harshal Patel also comes as a key retention, noting that he has won the Purple Cap twice.
In the pace bowling department, Pat Cummins will be continuing as the captain of the team. One of the most successful international captains lately, will be keeping his IPL mission on for the next season. Jaydev Unadkat and Eshan Malinga have also been retained by the team, adding more page bowling options for them.
When it comes to the spinners, Sunrisers Hyderabad have just retained Zeeshan Ansari in their line-up. Although he was not very effective with the ball for the team, they have retained him for the next edition. This also shows how Sunrisers Hyderabad is backing the young talent in the team.
Released Players
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s released players list could be termed as mediocre. The team has released several players, but this list includes the majority of those players who were not available to the team in the last season. In the batting department, the team has released Abhinav Manohar, Atharva Taide, and Sachin Baby.
All of the batsmen which have been released have a few things in common. Abhinav Manohar got limited opportunities to play for the team and was not able to do well in the same. Also, for Atharva Taide and Sachin Baby, they didn't receive many chances to play for them in the last season.
SRH Released Players List:
- Abhinav Manohar - 3.20 Crore
- Atharva Taide - 30 Lakh
- Sachin Baby - 30 Lakh
- Wiaan Mulder - 75 Lakh (Foreign)
- Mohammed Shami - 10 Crore (Traded to LSG)
- Simarjeet Singh - 1.50 Crore
- Rahul Chahar - 3.20 Crore
- Adam Zampa - 2.40 Crore (Foreign)
Wiaan Mulder could be termed as a shocking release by the team. Recently he had been in the headlines for his batting form, and could also make strides in the auction. Still, it should be noted that Mulder has not been able to receive many opportunities to play for them in the last season.
Mohammed Shami comes as the biggest shocker. He has been traded by Sunrisers Hyderabad to Lucknow SuperGiants for an all cash deal worth 10 crores. This is a massive deal between the two teams, and it has also helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to free up their purse ahead of the next auction.
Along with that, Simarjeet Singh has also been released by the team. This puts some questions on the pace bowling line-up of Sunrisers Hyderabad, as they are left with a few backup bowling options. More concern is being shown on the spin department of the team, where two out of the three key spinners have been released.
This includes the names of Rahul Chahar and Adam Zampa. When it comes to Zampa, he has been unavailable to play in the IPL for all the seasons when he has been brought by any team. Rahul Chahar also ended up being released by the team, after playing just one game for them in the last season.
Purse Remaining
With the IPL 2026 retentions, Sunrisers Hyderabad have been in a lot of benefit. The team is now having 25.50 crore rupees as they enter the auction which is scheduled to take place on 16 December. They could be eyeing some spinners in their line-up, noting their releases in spinners have been vital. Along with that, the team could also pay some focus on the middle order batsman or all-rounders, who could smash runs like their other batsmen.
